Debian update and PHP issue

A quick note to anyone upgrading their Debian installation on the bleeding edge ‘unstable’. The default Debian update doesn’t install the majority of the modules needed now in apache 2.2 the whole configuration has been made modular.

So, if you have this error:

Invalid command 'AddType', perhaps misspelled or defined by a module not
included in the server configuration

then you’re missing the ‘MIME’ module. Do a:

a2enmod mime

and all should be well — unless you use other bits and bobs too, in which case you’ll see more ‘perhaps misspelled’ errors. For each one, look up the Directive on the apache website, you’ll see the ‘module name’ in there — make sure you a2enmod each one and retry apache. Keep going until it’s all working and voila — your apache will be up and running again in no time.
